"Chain of Works: 1” has been created through the exchange of inspiration between artists of the Sound & Word Network. These artists, from different disciplines across the globe, have created new work in response to each other. The first “link in the chain” of inspiration came when Francesca Le Lohé (composer) wrote a short piece for solo sho inspired by the flash-fiction work “Nine-to-Five” by Charlotte Wührer (writer). Their works then went on to inspire other artists to respond; a total of 14 artists have created new works for this unique collaboration. "Chain of Works: 1" premiered in TAma Music and Arts Festival, March 2021

"After 9-5" for sho and electronics (2021)
Music: Francesca Le Lohé Words: Charlotte Wührer Created through an ongoing exchange between Sound & Word Network members Francesca Le Lohé (composer) and Charlotte Wührer (writer). The exchange began when Francesca composed a new short work for solo sho in response to Charlotte’s fiction work “Nine-to-Five”. Charlotte then wrote new text in response to this music, which was then passed back to Francesca to respond to with more new music etc. This “back-and-forth” of inspiration culminated in the piece “After 9-5”. The premiere was held at the experimental music event ‘Assorted Sounds’ @ OTOOTO, Tokyo (February 2021). ‘Assorted Sounds’ was organised by Francesca and fellow Sound & Word Network member, Tomoko Hojo (sound artist). With guests Atsumi Kojima (sho) and Chiho Oka (sound artist), the event presented new work and improvisational performances. 'CHAIN OF WORKS: 1', the first collaborative Sound & Word Network project, will stream at the 3rd TAma Music and Arts Festival on Sunday 21st March at UTC 9.30am-11amCatch the entire Japan-based TAma festival live on Youtube from the 20th - 21st March 2021 from 13-20:00 (JST, UTC+9). Funding for 'Chain of Works: 1' - Emergency Comprehensive Aid package for Cultural Art Activities by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan My garden without me is a project conceptualized and curated by Ana Gnjatović. It is a constructed archive of faked field recordings, imaginary soundscapes and following photo, video, and text-based documentation.
Several members of the Sound & Word Network have contributed to the TREE BARK RECIPES strand of the project: a collection of artworks showing befores and afters of insects inhabiting a single littleleaf linden (Tilia cordata). We're delighted to be featuring our first project at the TAma Music and Arts Festival in Japan, from the 20th - 21st March 2021. The festival will take place online. Details on how to attend to follow.
Sixteen Sound & Word Network members worked on "Chain of Works: 1" from December 2020 until March 2021. The result is a 15 minute audio-visual piece of interconnected works by composers and writers from all over the world. The first link in the chain came when network co-founder and composer Francesca Le Lohé (Japan) wrote a short piece for solo sho (笙) inspired by the story“Nine-to-Five” by network co-founder and writer Charlotte Wührer (Germany). Fourteen artists subsequently responded by creating new works in this unique collaboration. |
